Allocotopterus: gr. αλλοκοτος allokotos „niezwykły”, od αλλος allos „inny”; κοτος kotos „rozmieszczenie”; -πτερος -pteros „-skrzydły”, od πτερον pteron „skrzydło”[7]. Gatunek typowy: Pipra deliciosa P.L. Sclater, 1860.
