Rhinolophus schnitzleri és una espècie de ratpenat de la família dels rinolòfids. És endèmic de la Xina.
És un ratpenat de mida mitjana amb la llargada de l'avantbraç de 57,7 mm, la llargada de la cua de 26,9 mm, la llargada del peu de 10 mm i la llargada de les orelles de 30,1 mm.[1]
El pelatge és llarg. El color de les parts dorsals és castany, mentre que les parts ventrals són de color marró clar. La fulla nasal és gris clar, presenta una agulla excepcionalment curta i amb la punta arrodonida, una depressio gran, molt llarga, amb la punta roma i els costats gairebé paral·lels i lleugerament estesos cap endavant. La porció anterior és gairebé circular i molt ampla, amb una profunda fissura mediana. Les orelles són enormes i arrodonides, mentre que l'antitragus està ben desenvolupat. Les membranes alars són marrons i acoblades posteriorment als turmells. Els dits de les ales són llargs i esvelts. La cua és llarga s'estén més enllà de l'ample uropatagi, que és marró.
Es refugia a l'interior de coves.
S'alimenta d'insectes.
Aquesta espècie és coneguda només per un individu mascle adult capturat prop de Kunming, a la província xinesa de Yunnan.
Viu en àrees cultivades a aproximadament 1.550 metres d'altitud.
Com que fou descoberta fa poc, l'estat de conservació d'aquesta espècie encara no ha estat avaluat.

Schnitzler's horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus schnitzleri) is a species of bat in the family Rhinolophidae. It is endemic to China.[2][3][1]
The bat was first described by Wu Yi and Vu Dinh Thong in 2011. The holotype was collected in Xiao-dong Cave, Yunnan province, about 50 km from Kunming City.The species is named after Professor Hans-Ulrich Schnitzler in recognition of his contribution to the study of bats.
It belongs to the philippinensis species group.[1][3]
The bat is a large species of the genus Rhinolophus. It has a forearm length of around 58 mm (2.3 in). It also has a tail length of 26.9 mm (1.06 in). It also possesses very large ears. The bat is light brown and chestnut on the ventral and dorsal regions, respectively. The interfemoral and wing membranes are a brown color. The hair is long, with a length of 8.6–13.5 mm (0.34–0.53 in). The horseshoe is a light grey in color. It is broad and almost circular in shape. It is posteriorly contiguous with the anterior face of the lancet, and greatly exceeds the breadth of the muzzle. It has no supplementary leaflets.[3]
The bat is known only from the holotype inhabiting the Yunnan province in China. It is cave dwelling.[1]
Not much is known about the bat. However, as it is a cave-dwelling species, usual threats to cave-dwelling bats, such as in-roost disturbance probably affect it.[1]

La pelliccia è lunga. Il colore delle parti dorsali è castano, mentre le parti ventrali sono marroni chiare. La foglia nasale è grigio chiara, presenta una lancetta eccezionalmente corta e con la punta arrotondata, la sella grande, molto lunga, con la punta smussata e i lati quasi paralleli e leggermente espansi in avanti. La porzione anteriore è quasi circolare e molto larga, con una profonda fessura mediana. Le orecchie sono enormi e arrotondate, l'antitrago è ben sviluppato. Le membrane alari sono marroni e attaccate posteriormente sulle caviglie. Le dita delle ali sono lunghe e gracili. La coda è lunga si estende oltre l'ampio uropatagio, il quale è marrone.
Si rifugia all'interno di grotte.
Si nutre di insetti.
Questa specie è conosciuta soltanto da un individuo maschio adulto catturato presso Kunming, nella provincia cinese dello Yunnan.
Vive in aree coltivate a circa 1.550 metri di altitudine.
Questa specie, essendo stata scoperta solo recentemente, non è stata sottoposta ancora a nessun criterio di conservazione.
