Sudamerlycaste

Sudamerlycaste is a genus of flowering plants in the family Orchidaceae. It consists of approximately 45 species. The genus was split off from Lycaste in 2002 by Fredy Archila.

Taxonomy

Species in Lycaste that were endemic to South America and the Caribbean Islands were placed into the new genus Sudamerlycaste and those found in Mexico and Central America stayed in Lycaste. As a result of this change most of the species previously found in the Lycaste section Fimbriatae were then moved to the genus Sudamerlycaste. Species are either epiphytes or terrestrial. In 2003 Henry Oakeley and Angela Ryan published the genus name Ida to accommodate South American and Caribbean plants previously placed in Lycaste. Their description included the type species of Sudamerlycaste, Lycaste andreettae. This renders Ida an illegitimate name.^[1]

Sudamerlycaste es un género con 41 especies de orquídeas epifitas. Es originario del Caribe y Sudamérica tropical.^[1]​ El género fue denominado así por el Botánico Freddy Leonel Archila Morales luego de múltiples análisis de ADN.

Sudamerlycaste Archila, 2002 è un genere di piante della famiglia delle Orchidacee diffuse dai Caraibi all'America Meridionale tropicale.^[1]

Descrizione

Le specie incluse in questo genere sono provviste di pseudobulbi dai cui apici si sviluppano le foglie che di solito sono lanceolate, con evidenti nervature. Molte specie di Sudamerlycaste sono terricole (geofite).^[2].

Tassonomia

Questo genere è stato segregato nel 2002 da Archila dal genere Lycaste e comprende 41 specie precedentemente comprese nella vecchia sezione Lycaste Fimbriatae.^[2][3]

Coltivazione

Trattandosi in special modo di piante terricole originarie di climi tropicali indicativamente vanno coltivate in vasi contenenti terriccio fertile, con temperature miti e buona umidità nella fase della fioritura, compatibilmente con le esigenze delle singole specie^[2].
