Polygala gracilis H.B.K. Nov Gen. &Sp. 5: 401. 1823. Slender erect annual, 4 dm. high, glabrous; leaves all alternate, linear, 3-9 mm. long, 0.2-0.5 mm. wide, acuminate, cuspidate, thickish; racemes slightly loose, cylindric, the axis 9 cm. long or less, finely pubescent; pedicels 0.7 mm. long; flowers rosy; sepals broadly ovate to narrowly oblong-lanceolate, 1.4 mm. long; wings narrowly spatulate-obovate, 2.6 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, truncate-rounded, at base long-cuneate, 3-nerved; keel 2.4 mm. long, the crest of about 3 lobes on each side; capsule oblong-oval, 1.6 mm. long; seed 1.5 mm. long, appressed-pubescent ; aril 0.6 mm. long, the 2 lobes appressed, linear-oblong.
Type locality: Near village of Maypures, Colombia.
Distribution: Chiapas; Nicaragua; Panama; also in Venezuela and Colombia.
