Urostylid ciliate, usually between 50 and 70 micrometres long, but ranging from 30 to 100 micrometres. Spindle-shaped body, widest in middle, anterior may be distinctly curved to the left and finer than posterior. Contractile vacuole well behind the mid-point of the cell, to the left of the midline. AZM 1/3 to 1/4 as long as the body. 8-10 midventral cirri. 5-12 transverse cirri, somewhat fanned out from the posterior. No caudal cirri. Two ellipsoid macronuclei. Very common, widespread; freshwater and marine.
