Árbol de 8 a 30 m de altura; ramitas densamente ferrugíneo-tomentosas o glabras, lenticeladas; estípulas hasta 5 mm de largo, decíduas. Hojas con 4-5 (-6) pares de folíolos, oblongos a obovados, ápice agudo a acuminado-lustrosos en la haz http://darnis.inbio.ac.cr/FMPro?-db=imagenes2.fp3&key=34557&-img" > (Ver fotografía) , glabros o ferrugíneo pubescentes, el par distal 7-18 por 3.5-5 (-8) cm, basal 2.5-4 por 1.5 cm; raquis alado o no alado, glándulas interfoliolares sésiles o corto-estipitadas; pecíolo no alado. Inflorescencias en espigas, pedúnculo 4-6 cm de largo, ferrugíneo-pubescente, raquis floral 1-3 cm de largo. Flores con cáliz 2.5-5 mm de largo, corola 6.5-9 mm de largo. Frutos aplanados y recurvados, 8-22 por 4-10 por 1-1.5 cm, glabros o pilosos, a veces con verrugas a la altura de las semillas, leñosos. Se reconoce por tener la inflorescencia con flores congestionadas y brácteas largas (6 mm) y persistentes Es una especie muy variable, las hojas pueden ser muy pubescentes o glabras y el raquis puede ser alado o no alado. Los frutos son subleñosos y a veces enroscados. A tree, the twigs densely brownish-tomentose. Rachis of the leaf narrowly winged, densely tomentose, bearing sessile glands between the leaflets; leaflets 3 to 5 pairs, lanceolate, often acuminate, 3.5-12 cm. long, shining and somewhat hairy above, densely hairy beneath; inflorescence axillary or terminal; peduncles 1 to 3 in axils of leaves, 2-4 cm. long, pubescent; spikes at first head-like, 1-2 cm. long; calyx 5-6 mm. long, pubescent; corolla 8.5-10 mm. long, villous; staminal tube included, the filaments pink.

A widely spreading tree, about 16 m'. high, the twigs brownish-pubescent. Rachis of leaf narrowly winged, pubescent, bearing large flat sessile glands between the leaflets; leaflets 3 or 4 pairs, ovate to oblong, acute or often abruptly acuminate, glabrous and shining above except on the veins, nearly glabrous beneath; spikes 2-3.5 cm. long, solitary in the axils of upper leaves on peduncles 3-4 cm. long; calyx puberulent, 4-4.5 mm. long; corolla 7-8 mm. long; staminal tube included; legume 8-16 cm. long, 5-6 cm. broad, at first yellowish-pubescent, becoming glabrate in age.
Type locality: Bismarck, Panama. Distribution: Known only from the type locality.

Inga densiflora ist eine Baumart aus der Unterfamilie der Mimosengewächse (Mimosoideae). Sie ist in Mittel- und Südamerika beheimatet.

Beschreibung

Inga densiflora ist ein Baum mit einer Wuchshöhe von bis zu 20 Metern und grauer Rinde. Die Blätter sind vier- bis fünffach paarig gefiedert, die Blättchen am Rand rostrot flaumig behaart, ebenso wie die beidseitig deutlich hervortretende Mittelrippe.

Die Blattrhachis ist 5,5 bis 12,2 Zentimeter lang, gelb bis rostrot flaumig behaart und geflügelt, die Flügel sind am äußersten Ende ohrförmig, die Drüsen becherförmig.

Die Blütenstände entspringen den Blattachseln sowie den Achseln unausgebildeter Blätter und stehen oder in Gruppen von ein bis drei dichtstehender Ähren. Der Schaft ist 1,7 bis 8 Zentimeter lang, die Rhachis 1,5 bis 3,5 Zentimeter und gelb bis orange flaumig behaart. Die Blüten sind grünlich-cremefarben, die Staubblätter weiß. Die Früchte sind 22 bis 50 Zentimeter lang und 4,8 bis 10 Zentimeter breit, grün bis braun.

Die Chromosomenzahl beträgt 2n = 26.[1]

Verbreitung

Die Art ist heimisch von Mexiko bis Peru und Venezuela.
