Colonies. With a daily growth rate of 3-3.5 mm, without coloured exudates, becoming dark due to pigmented hyphae immersed in the substrate. Ascomata. Often in concentric zones, maturing within 10 days, ochraceous, cinnamon, orange or grey-green in reflected light, superficial, spherical or ovate, ostiolate, 100-175 μm, with a thin wall of brown, angular or irregular cells; ascomatal hairs numerous, arcuate or flexuous, up to 240 μm long, 3-4.5 μm broad near the base, with a distinctly swollen basal cell, septate, verrucose or warty, orange or pale ochraceous. Asci. Clavate or obpyriform, with short stalks, 8-spored, evanescent, 25-36 × 9-12 μm. Ascospores. Ovate or ellipsoidal, olivaceous brown when : nature, 7-9.5 × 5-7 μm, with a distinct, slightly subapical or ob1ique germ pore. Paraphyses. Not observed.
