Bicyclus istaris (Plotz)
Mycalesis istaris Plotz, 1880: 197 (Ashanti).
The species is distributed throughout the forests of the Guinean subregion. Condamin (1963b) records five males and five females from the Nimba country, most of the captures having been made in secondary forests and bush.

Bicyclus istaris, the velvet bush brown, is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is found in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, southern Sudan, Uganda, Kenya (west of the Rift Valley) and north-western Tanzania.[2] The habitat consists of wetter forests in somewhat hilly areas.
