The lower pinkish area is the vent, and the slit toward the top is the umbilicus, where the snake was attached to it's yolk. Before it is 1 year old this mark will be gone, so we know this is a young-of-the-year.
I found this baby queen snake underwater while surveying for mussels. It had tried to swallow a crayfish that was just too large. It was barely moving when I first saw it. I brought it out of the water, so it could breathe, but it stopped moving. I pulled the crayfish out, but the snake didn't recover.
