Anaxyrus is a group of amphibians in the family Bufonidae native to North and Central America. Anaxyrus was raised from a subgenus of Bufo to genus level in Frost et al.'s (2006) comprehensive review of amphibian taxonomy. However, the relationships among the subgroups of Bufo presented in this study remain controversial, and the recognition of Anaxyrus as a genus is not universally accepted (Frost et al. 2009, Pauly et al. 2004, 2009).
Anaxyrus is a genus of true toads in the family Bufonidae. The genus is endemic to North and Central America. Some authors consider Anaxyrus to be a subgenus within Bufo.[1]
