Pileus thin, tough, subcampanulate or convex, 1-2 cm. broad; surface glabrous, shining when moist, reddish-brown, often darker at the center, the red color fading out in dried plants : context having a bitter taste; lamellae broad, moderately close, subventricose, adnexed, white, often with a pinkish tint, interspaces venose: spores ellipsoid, often guttulate, 8-10 X 5-6 /t: stipe slender, cartilaginous, hollow, pallid, glabrous or slightly pruinose above, abundantly white-tomentose at the base, 2.5-4 cm. long, 2-3 mm. thick.
Type locality: Sacramento, California. Habitat: Upon lawns in shaded places. Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
