Desmanthus virgatus (Wild Tantan) is a species of shrub in the family legumes. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Cerrado, Puerto Rico, Rio Grande Do Sul, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Rio De Janeiro, Caatinga, ParaíBa, Minas Gerais, Bahia, SãO Paulo, Santa Catarina, Espirito Santo, Pantanal, The Contiguous United States, Ceará, Pernambuco, U.S. Virgin Islands, Mata Atlântica, and Paraná. They have compound, broad leaves and white flowers. Individuals can grow to 0.61 m.
