They are native to Amazônia, Maranhao, Pantanal, Pará, Piauí, Puerto Rico, The Contiguous United States, Sergipe, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Pernambuco, SãO Paulo, ParaíBa, Tocantins, Mato Grosso, Bahia, Rio Grande Do Sul, Mata Atlântica, Caatinga, Cerrado, Paraná, Santa Catarina, GoiáS, Roraima, Minas Gerais, Ceará, Rio Grande Do Norte, Acre (Brazil), Pampa, Alagoas, and RondôNia. They have drupes. Flowers are visited by Hylephila phylaeus and Queen.
