Tephrosia rupicola subsp. rupicola

Small shrub, up to c. 1 m tall. Young branches densely covered in spreading or somewhat appressed brown hairs. Leaves paripinnate with 5-8 pairs of leaflets, leaflets oblanceolate-oblong, pubescent on both surfaces, shortly mucronate at the apex; margin entire. Inflorescence lax, terminal, up to 20 cm long; flowers purple with calyx densely covered in brown hairs. Pods 2.5-3.5 cm long, velvety on the margins only. See also subsp. dreweana Brummitt.
