Much-branched erect perennial herb, up to 60 cm. Leaves alternate, sessile, lanceolate to oblanceolate, up to 50 × 3.5 mm, with appressed rough hairs or glandular. Capitula solitary at the ends of branches on peduncles up to 2 cm long, covered with rough stalked glands. Involucral bracts 3-4-seriate, greenish, outer shortest, with roughish glands; inner up to 3.5 mm long. Ray-florets c. 25, pale mauve, 5.5 × 1 mm. Disk-florets numerous, yellow. See subsp. transvaalensis for comparison.
