Malpighia nummulariifolia Niedzu. Gen. Malp. 18. 1899 Leaf-blades oval, ovate, obovate, or suborbicular, 0.5-2 cm. long, abruptly pointed or notched at the apex, spiny-toothed, reticulate above, finely pubescent on both sides, often copiously so beneath, rounded or subcordate at the base, sessile or nearly so ; cymes sessile, the branches sparingly pubescent or glabrous in age ; sepals oblong-ovate or nearly oblong, 3-3.5 mm. long, the glands usually less than one half the length of the sepal-body ; corolla purple, 13-1S mm. wide, the larger petals 6-8 mm. long; drupes ovoid-globose.
