Minnesota Seasons - Poplar’s snout weevil

This is a medium to large sized, ½″ to ⅝″ long weevil. It feeds on the roots and leaves of soft trees, including willow (Salix), sassafras (Sassafras), and poplar (Populus). The head is greatly elongated between the eyes and the mouth forming a conspicuous snout.
