Sonchus asper (Spiny Sowthistle) is a species of annual herb in the family Asteraceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Africa, Europe, and Asia. They have simple, broad leaves and achenes. Flowers are visited by Monarch, Dasysyrphus albostriatus, Pieris brassicae, and Rhingia campestris. Individuals can grow to 0.45 m.
