Plants 0.5-3.5 dm. tall, bright-green and sometimes glaucescent when young. Stems simple at the base, or often branched, the branches erect or ascending, striate below, angled above, corymbosely branched, the brauchlets ascending, ,the cymules ultimately open ; leaves few or sometimes quite numerous, but not crowded, spreading or ascending, the blades linear to narrowly linear-lanceolate, mostly 1.5-4 cm. long, acuminate, entire, the lateral nerves marginal ; bracts lanceolate, glandular-toothed ; outer sepals lanceolate, becoming 9-11 mm. long, quite evenly glandular-toothed, acuminate, and minutely spinetipped ; inner sepals resembling the outer ones but shorter and relatively broader, more finely toothed and more decidedly acuminate ; petals bright-yellow, 17-22 mm. long ; capsules ovoid, 4-4.5 mm. long.
Type locality : Bexar, Texas.
Distribution : Kansas and Colorado to Texas.

Cathartolinum sanctum Small
Linum sanctum Small, Fl. SE. U. S. 664. 1903.
Plants 1.5-3. dm. tall, deep-green. Stems striate, pruinose, corymbosely branched above, the branches angled, terminating in ultimately open cymules ; leaves alternate, mostly ascending, somewhat more approximate on the lower part of the stem than above, the blades thiekish, those of the lower leaves spatulate, those of the upper ones narrowly oblong, all acute, entire, the lateral nerves not marginal ; bracts lanceolate, glandulartoothed ; outer sepals lanceolate, becoming 10-12 mm. long, acuminate, rather sparingly glandular-toothed ; inner sepals much shorter that the outer, more decidedly acuminate and with numerous finer teeth; petals yellow, 18-22 mm. long; capsules not seen.
