Cathartolinum compactum (A. Nelson) Small
Linum compactum A. Nelson, Bull. Torrey Club 31 : 241. 1904.
Plants 1-1.7 dm. tall, dull-green, nearly glabrous or rough-puberulent. Stems branched at the base, the branches often numerous, erect or ascending, striate-angled, eorymbosely branched, the cymules rather compact; leaves numerous near the base of the plant, and spreading, but early deciduous, the upper ones more persistent, erect or ascending, the blades thickish, linear, entire, acute or acuminate, sessile ; bracts lanceolate, glandulartoothed ; outer sepals lanceolate, becoming 6-8 mm. long, acuminate, quite evenly glandular-toothed ; inner sepals much shorter than the outer ones, more decidedly acuminate and more closely toothed ; petals yellow, 7-9 mm. long ; capsules ovoid, about 4 mm. long.
Type locality : Torrington, Wyoming.
Distribution : North Dakota and Montana to Kansas and Wyoming.
