They are native to Pantanal, Tocantins, Cerrado, Alagoas, Mata Atlântica, Rio Grande Do Sul, Ceará, Amapá, Pampa, Puerto Rico, Distrito Federal, Maranhao, AmazôNia, RondôNia, Colombia, Rio Grande Do Norte, Piauí, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Espirito Santo, Ecuador, U.S. Virgin Islands, Paraná, Rio De Janeiro, GoiáS, Pernambuco, Mato Grosso, Costa Rica, Peru, Nicaragua, Caatinga, Acre (Brazil), Pará, Solomon Islands, SãO Paulo, Santa Catarina, Sergipe, Roraima, Mato Grosso Do Sul, and ParaíBa. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Megachile venusta, Halictus, Paragus borbonicus, and yellowjackets, hornets, and paper wasps. Individuals can grow to 2.3 m.
