Description: Body with ctenoid scales, except for the cycloid scales on the ventral side of the abdomen and on the base of the pectoral fin; LL 30-32; TR 10-11; brownish to brownish yellow body color; 7 lateral vertical pale bands, first in front of C origin, seventh beginning at the origin of D1; 2 bands on the predorsal area; 3 bands on cheek; black spots along dorsal fin bases; head with anterior oculoscapular canal present, with all pores; posterior oculoscapular and preopercular canal absent. Steinitz's goby (Gammogobius steinitzi) is a species of goby. It is native to the Mediterranean Sea near Marseilles.[2] It has been recently recorded in the Adriatic Sea in Croatia,[3] Tyrrhenian Sea in Italy,[4] and in the Black Sea in Ukraine.[5] This species can be found in underwater grottoes in inshore waters at depths of 2 to 15 metres (6.6 to 49.2 ft). Steinitz's goby can reach a length of 3.8 centimetres (1.5 in) SL.[2] Its name honours the marine biologist and herpetologist Heinz Steinitz (1909-1971) of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.[6]

Glavoč Steinitzov (lat. Gammogobius steinitzi) riba je iz porodice glavoča. Ovo je mala i nedovoljno ispitana riba, koja u Hrvatskoj je pronađena 16. listopada 1998. u jednoj podmorskoj špilji nedaleko od Vrbnika na Krku. Smeđkaste je boje, a na tijelu ima 5 ili 6 tamnih poprečnih pruga koji se izmjenjuju s užim blijedim pojasevima. Uz baze leđnih peraja ima i male tamne točke. Cijelo tijelo, osim glave je prekriveno malim ljuskama. Ovaj glavoč naraste do 3,8 cm duljine. Živi uz samu obalu, na dubinama do 15 m, najčešće u špiljama i zaklonjenim mjestima [1].

Rasprostranjenost

Steinitzov glavoč živi samo u Mediteranu, i to na samo nekim lokacijama, osim kod nas je pronađen i u Lionskom zaljevu [2].

Il ghiozzetto di Marsiglia o ghiozzetto di Steinitz (Gammogobius steinitzi) è un piccolissimo pesce marino appartenente alla famiglia Gobiidae. È l'unica specie del genere Gammogobius.

Distribuzione e habitat

Endemico del nord del mar Mediterraneo. La sua distribuzione è poco nota, è riportato per il mar Tirreno, la Provenza, l'Adriatico e le isole Baleari.

Vive all'interno di grotte sommerse, in ambienti oscuri.

Descrizione

È un piccolo gobide caratteristico per le minuscole dimensioni (non superiori a 4 cm), per la testa appuntita e per la livrea caratteristica, marrone con sottili barre azzurrastre.

Biologia

Vive sulle pareti o sul soffitto delle grotte, per il resto la sua biologia è pochissimo conosciuta.

Gammogobius steinitzi is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van grondels (Gobiidae).[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1971 door Bath.

De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als Onzeker, beoordelingsjaar 2007.[1]
