Oceanic species (Ref. 26340). Epi- to bathypelagic, perhaps benthopelagic (Ref. 58302). Young found between 10-200 m while juvenile and adult specimens between 400-800 m (Ref. 4473). Minimum depth reported taken from Ref. 4473.

體細長而側扁。頭狹長，前部尖。吻長。眼中等大，前方有一黑色的小發光斑。口裂長，上頜末端延伸至眼前緣下方；下頜略長長於下頜；下頜及腭骨具犬齒。體裸露，僅沿側緣具有鱗狀結構的側線管，約具74-81個。腹面由喉峽部至腹鰭基的正中間處具有一對縱向而平行的發光管，發光管的前後兩端相連。背鰭小，其起點約位於腹鰭及臀鰭起點連線之中間；臀鰭長，具40-45軟條。體色淡，具暗色背紋。
棲地

中、底層深海魚類。游泳速度快，生態習性不甚清楚。由捕獲記錄推估，幼魚生活於10-200公尺深的於域，而成魚約在400-800公尺間。
