Vomerine teeth are biserial and diverging anteriorly with the posterior most 3 to 4 teeth forming a single row (Ref. 37816).Description: Characterized by whitish or pale yellow color; densely mottled with small brown spots; purplish grey color front half of head; white iris; body depth at gill opening17-22 in TL; origin of dorsal fin about midway between gill opening and mouth corner; anus well anterior to middle of body; preanal length about 2.5 in TL; conical teeth, none as canines, in two rows on side of upper jaw and front of lower jaw; median row of intermaxillary with two conical teeth (Ref. 90102).

Fairly common inhabitant of reef flats where it is usually encountered in shallow tidal pools. Feeds on crustaceans, small fishes and octopi (Ref. 89972). Often in shipwrecks; usually in pairs or small aggregations, and shares habitat with other morays (Ref. 48635). Also common in sheltered reefs (Ref 90102).

魚體較為延長;吻部較鈍。牙齒為圓錐狀;上頜齒、鋤骨齒和下頜齒前側二列。脊椎骨數129-134。底色為黃褐色,周身密佈暗褐色的小點;頭前半部無斑點且較身體部位顏色為深。眼虹彩為純白色,瞳孔的直徑較其他種鯙類為小;鰓孔的顏色較深。部份福馬林液保存的標本,體表會包覆了一層綠色的物質。以前所記載之密點星鯙(/
Siderea thrysoidea/)為本種之異名。
棲地

主要棲息於潮間帶及亞潮帶的珊瑚、岩礁隙縫中;經常將挺起的身體前半部露出洞穴外。活動敏捷,常外出獵食;喜歡捕食甲殼類或魚類。

The greyface moray eel, also called the freckled moray, slender moray, or white-eyed moray,[1] Gymnothorax thyrsoideus, is a species of marine fish in the family Muraenidae.
Description
The Greyface moray is a medium-sized fish that is most commonly observed at lengths of around 40 cm, reaching a maximum length of 66 cm.[2][3] Its body is serpentine in shape, is speckled with small dark spots and has a predominantly beige color that can vary in strength between different eels . The head is grey with distinctive white eyes. Here is a video of the eel in its natural habitat.
Distribution and habitat
The greyface moray is widespread throughout the Indo-Pacific area from India and the Maldives to Polynesia and from south Japan to Australia and New Caledonia.[4]
This moray likes shallow and somewhat turbid waters from lagoons, protected reefs and areas rich in debris like wrecks around 35 meters deep.[5]
Biology
The greyface moray is a carnivore of benthic fish. During the day, it sits in a shelter, often with other morays. When night arrives it leaves its lair and actively hunts prey, consisting of small fish and crustaceans.
