Reeve's Moray

Description: Characterized by light brown color with 2-3 rows of large dark brown spots on body; sprinkling of smaller irregular dark brown spots on body and fins; body depth at gill opening 10-20 in TL; origin of dorsal fin about equidistant from corner of mouth to gill opening; anus anterior to middle of body; preanal length 2.2-2.3 in TL; single row of teeth in jaws, progressively longer anteriorly; juvenile may have inner row of several longer teeth on side of upper jaw; noticeably raised rim of posterior nostril (Ref. 90102).

Inhabits coral reefs (Ref. 58534).

Found in coral and rocky reefs, sometimes in silty conditions, in 3-55 m (Ref 90102). Feeds on fishes (Ref. 89972).

分布於西北太平洋區，由日本南部至南中國海。臺灣分布於西部、北部、東北部及澎湖等海域。

一般可利用底延繩釣、籠具誘捕等漁法。可食用性。

體延長而呈圓柱狀，尾部側扁。吻短而鈍；頜齒單列，頜間齒為2-3個可倒伏的尖牙。脊椎骨數125-128。小魚體暗褐色，略帶紅紫，成魚體色由黃褐色至紅褐色。體側有2-4列褐斑，背、臀鰭上各具一排梳狀的褐斑，大斑點間有許多細小的褐斑點；前後鼻孔黃白色。

主要棲息於礁石海岸區。以魚類為主食，偶食甲殼類。

Reeve's moray (Gymnothorax reevesii) is a moray eel of the family Muraenidae. Its length is up to 60 cm.
