Gymnothorax prolatus Sasaki & Amaoka 1991

Probably inhabiting muddy or sandy bottoms (Ref. 10326). Size of eggs 1.0-1.2 mm (Ref. 40858).

目前本種記錄於西太平洋及南中國海地區，臺灣分布於東北部及西南部，常見於西南部。

見於底拖網的漁獲中，一般以下雜魚處理。

體型不大，但魚體相當細長；肛門約位於魚體體長的中央；眼睛位於上顎中央點的上方或略後。福馬林浸泡的標本背鰭和臀鰭高度很低，幾乎緊貼表皮。齒為尖牙狀；上顎齒2列。魚體為單一的灰褐色，鰭條的邊緣為黑褐色。本種過去在Chen et al. (1994)認為是長鯙(/Strophidon sathete/)之幼魚，後Böhlke (1997)確認本種為有效。本種與長鯙主要差異在眼睛位於口裂中央，長鯙則在較前方。〔登錄標本〕ASIZP0055652, 2 specimens, 31-40.4 cm TL, Jan. 15.1981,Tungkang.〔鑑別特徵〕HL. 10-11; BD. 29-31; TR. 2.4 in TL; TV. 182-187。

棲息於大陸棚約100公尺以內之海域。

Gymnothorax prolatus is a moray eel found in the northwest Pacific Ocean, around Taiwan. It was first named by Sasaki and Amaoka in 1991, and can measure up to approximately 40 centimetres.
