Colonies are a mixture of flattened branches or columns or irregular nodules. They are sometimes found free-living. Corallites are very fine and shallow, giving colonies a smooth surface. Colour: pale to dark grey-frown. Abundance: common over a wide range of environments. (Veron, 1986 ) Lumpy in form, producing irregular columna or colonies with flattened branches which may be anastomosing. Corallites often less than 1 mm across. Colonies are smooth. Colour: pale grey or brown or reddish-brown. Habitat: diverse, including reef flats. (Richmond, 1997)
