Characoidei is a suborder of ray-finned fishes. There are 2033 species of Characoidei, in 265 genera and 21 families. This suborder has been around since the maastrichtian age. It includes groups like South American Darters, Serrasalmidae, and Prochilodontidae. They have sexual reproduction.
