Plants annual, 20-40 cm tall. Stem erect or ascending, succulent, often naked in lower part, with many fibrous roots, branched or simple; stem, branches, and young leaves densely yellow-brown tomentulose, ± glabrous. Leaves alternate, usually crowded in upper part of stem, sessile or shortly petiolate; petiole 1-1.5 cm, stout, densely brown tomentulose; leaf blade gray-green abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate or oblong-lanceolate, 6-12 × 2.5-3.5 cm, often with 1 pair of glands and a few pairs of stipitate glands at base, abaxially brown tomentulose on veins, adaxially adpressed yellow-brown pilose, lateral veins 6-9 pairs, abaxially stout and conspicuous, base cuneate, margin crenate-serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 2-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves, 2.5-3 cm, densely tomentulose. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm, slender, bracteate below middle; bracts persistent, lanceolate, 3-5 mm. Flowers orange-yellow, 1.5-2 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, ovate, 3-4 mm, denticulate, apex acuminate. Lower sepal funnelform, sparsely pubescent, gradually narrowed into an incurved spur; spur ca. 1.5 cm, slender; mouth oblique, ca. 8 mm wide, tip obtuse. Upper petal subreniform, ca. 8 mm wide, abaxial midvein thickened, cristate; lateral united petals not clawed, short, 2-lobed; basal lobes broadly cuneate; distal lobes lunar, apex rounded; auricle conspicuous. Filaments linear; anthers very small, obtuse. Ovary fusiform, 2-3 mm. Capsule linear, ca. 2 cm. Seeds few, brown, oblong, ca. 4 mm. Fl. Jul-Aug.
