Description: A blinder of a night with the bright 250 And yes, it's bright.. in fact it makes the standard 125 MV look like a candle light in comparison. A cracking catch on a really warm night with temps no lower than 17 degrees at 4am. I decided to run the 250w Clear bulb again, and o my it was worth it with some quality moths found come the morning. Garden species count for 2018 now upto 217, with two Coleophora pending and to add. Here are the new for year species. Description: A pleasing variety Back to trapping, and with a slightly cooler and less favourable night ahead compared to the two weekend nights, I wasn't expecting much. Luckily the cloud stuck around, and so did the moths and again not a huge amount, but a nice array of new species for the year making it another 10 to add to the year list. The majority of the catch was made up of Mottled Rustic (15) and Heart & Dart (34). A nice splash of colour with Barred Yellow and Small Emerald featuring for the first time this year. Privet Hawk-moth made up the size of the catch quite literally! Description: A belated sweeping session yields 3 new moths for me Back on the 21st of May I had a brief hour sweeping session along a wildflower field at the edge of Hexton Chalk Pit just about in Hertfordshire (As it border's bedfordshire strangely on both sides). I ended up with a few nice moths including 3 firsts for me, Marsh Pug, Common Heath and Pancalia leuwenhoekella, all three species quite scarce in Herts. If that wasn't enough I caught up with a little beauty that i've only ever seen once before, the tiny shiney Stephensia brunnichella. The weather was warm with highs of 22c but a little breezy which made netting tricky at times. Full list below of species seen but no counts given There is still a Stigmella sp, Parornix sp and 2x Dichrorampha sps to gen det.
