Diagnosis: teeth rather long and widely-spaced; premaxillary pedicel and jaws relatively short; eye rather small; cheek depth relatively large (Ref. 55949).Description: small, slender and streamlined; snout acutely pointed; mouth small; jaws delicate; teeth slender, curved and rather widely-spaced (Ref. 55949).

Found at fairly deep levels of the open water. Piscivorous (Ref. 5595).

Rhamphochromis ferox is a species of piscivorous cichlid endemic to deep waters of Lake Malawi and the upper reaches of the Shire River. This species can reach a length of 45 centimetres (18 in) TL. It can also be found in the aquarium trade.
