Green Skipper

Hesperia viridis is a year-round resident in the southern part of the United States, from Wyoming south to Texas and extending into western Mexico, and Arizona east to Oklahoma (Scott 1986). Habitats are mesquite grassland and prairie, chaparral and pine or oak woodland. Host plants are several species of grasses, including Bouteloua gracilis, B. Curtipendula, Erioneuron pilosum, Tridens muticus, Buchloe dactyloides. Eggs are laid on or near the host plant singly. There is a variable number of flights each year depending on latitude with one flight between June 1-June 30 at high altitude, late May-early Aug. on the Colorado plains, and several flights between April 1- Oct. 15 in Texas (Scott 1986).

Hesperia viridis, the green skipper, is a species of grass skipper in the butterfly family Hesperiidae. It is found in Central America and North America.
