Dingy Purplewing

Eunica monima is resident to North America only in the very southern tip of Florida, but it is a common stray into Texas from Mexico. This species ranges south to Venezuela, the Bahamas and the Greater Antilles (Scott 1986). Habitats are subtropical wooded areas and hammocks. Host plants are restricted to one tree species, Zanthoxylum pentamon (Rutaceae). There are multiple flights each year between May 1-Dec. 31 in Fla. (Scott 1986).

Adults feed on fruit, dung, sap and mud (Scott, 1986).

Eunica monima, the dingy purplewing, is a species of tropical brushfoot in the family Nymphalidae, and was described by Caspar Stoll in 1782. It is found in North America.
