This male sea spider is brooding fertilized eggs he gathered from his mate. The resulting larvae will parasitize the hydroid Aglaophenia on which the adults feed. 8 mm across. These cryptic sea spiders move very slowly.
Description: This individual is carrying juveniles. It is a nymphonid pycnogonid, possibly Boreonymphon sp. or Nymphon sp.
It is not possible to confirm the identification without observing the chela and palp. Item Type: Image Title: Nymphonid Copyright: SERPENT Project Species: Boreonymphon sp. Description: Sea spider (Pycnogonid) Nymphon sp. and an anemone of the the Hormathiidae family, this is one of the two more diverse families in the deep sea and many of the taxa are distinguished based on internal anatomy (Such as how many pairs of mesenteries are complete or the size of nematocysts).
