Small Strombidium species; body truncate conical; APZ distinctly separated from VPZ; girdle kinety supraequatorial or equatorial; short ventral kinety with 2-4 dikinetids, not seen in Lugol?s fixed material; one spherical macronucleus

This is one of the smallest strombidiids found. At present we consider it a single taxon, but it may represent several species.

Small Strombidium species, 15 (10-25) µm long and 11 (7-15) µm wide; body truncate conical (Fig 1-4,6,7); trichites (Tr) insert anterior to the girdle and extend internally to just posterior of the girdle (Fig 1,6).; Shallow oral cavity; 12 (8-15) APks and 7 (5-10) VPks; APZ distinctly separated from VPZ (Fig 1,7,10).; Girdle kinety supraequatorial or equatorial, completely surrounding the cell (Fig 1,7,8); short ventral kinety with 2-4 dikinetids, anterior kinetosomes ciliated (Fig 1b).; One spherical macronucleus, centrally to posterior (Fig 1,4,6,7,9,10).
