Alnus glutinosa (European Alder) is a species of tree in the family Betulaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to United Kingdom, Romania, Albania, Sweden, France, Morocco, Algeria, Italy, Norway, Belgium, Belarus, Tunisia, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Ireland, Austria, Spain, Poland, Yugoslavia, Greece, Norfolk Island, Portugal, Denmark, Turkey, Germany, The Netherlands, Iran, Finland, and Russia. They have simple, broad leaves and purple flowers. Individuals can grow to 17 m.
