Xerophyllum tenax (Bear Grass) is a species of perennial herb in the family Melanthiaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Western North America, The Contiguous United States, United States, Canada, and North America. They have simple, broad leaves and white flowers. Flowers are visited by Eupeodes lapponicus, Epicauta, Eupeodes aberrantis, and Sericomyia chalcopyga. Individuals can grow to 5 feet.
