Vol. 52, No. 2, 122–128The solitary bee Centris trigonoides Lepeletier belongs
to a group of Apoidea, which has been increasingly
studied by Brazilian biologists because of their
potential to pollinate crops and native plants. Centris
trigonoides nests in pre-existing cavities and the bees’
nesting behaviour were recently studied by observing
nests in wood cavities and in trap-nests. Nesting
females carry out from five to eight pollen foraging
trips to provision each brood cell. Female behaviour
inside the nest indicates that nectar is added to
the larval provisions. In addition, the females perform
four to six trips to collect floral oil, which
is added on the surface of the provisions
