New Guinea Long Eared Bat

El ratpenat orellut papú (Nyctophilus microtis) és una espècie de ratpenat de la família dels vespertiliònids. Viu a Indonèsia i Papua Nova Guinea. El seu hàbitat natural són els boscos tropicals humits primaris i secundaris, o en les clarianes del bosc. No hi ha cap amenaça significativa per a la supervivència d'aquesta espècie, excepte les pertorbacions humanes o la pèrdua d'una cova de descans.^[1]

The New Guinea long-eared bat (Nyctophilus microtis) is a small species of bat. It is found only in Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

The description of the species was published by Oldfield Thomas in 1888, recognising the affinity with Nyctophilus timoriensis, the name ascribed to Australian vespertilionid 'long-eared bat' taxa.^[2] Thomas's description of a new species in the genus Nyctophilus was the first to indicate the diversity of the group, previously described as monotypic. The specimen is noted as having been collected at Sogere, South-east New Guinea by Henry Ogg Forbes, and deposited at the British Museum of Natural History, London.^[2]

Nyctophilus microtis (Thomas, 1888) è un pipistrello della famiglia dei Vespertilionidi endemico della Nuova Guinea.^[1][2]

Descrizione

Dimensioni

Pipistrello di piccole dimensioni, con la lunghezza della testa e del corpo tra 42,5 e 63 mm, la lunghezza dell'avambraccio tra 37 e 40,9 mm, la lunghezza della coda tra 36 e 49 mm, la lunghezza del piede tra 7 e 10 mm, la lunghezza delle orecchie tra 14 e 19,4 mm e un peso fino a 9,5 g.^[3]

Aspetto

La pelliccia è corta e densa. Le parti dorsali sono marroni con la base dei peli più scura, mentre le parti ventrali sono più chiare. Il muso è tronco e cosparso di peli, con un disco carnoso all'estremità dove si aprono le narici e dietro al quale è presente un rigonfiamento ben sviluppato e attraversato longitudinalmente da un solco superficiale. Gli occhi sono piccoli. Le orecchie sono grandi, strette, appuntite ed unite sulla fronte da una sottile e poco sviluppata membrana cutanea, nascosta nella pelliccia. Il trago è rettangolare, con una piccola proiezione alla base dell'orecchio. Le membrane alari sono bruno-nerastre e attaccate posteriormente alla base delle dita dei piedi. L'estremità della lunga coda si estende leggermente oltre l'ampio uropatagio.

Biologia

Comportamento

Si rifugia in piccoli gruppi tra bambù secchi, nel denso fogliame o nelle pareti più alte delle grotte. Entra in uno stato di ibernazione a temperature esterne più fredde.

Alimentazione

Si nutre di insetti.

Riproduzione

Femmine che allattavano sono state catturate nel mese di luglio.

Distribuzione e habitat

Questa specie è diffusa in Nuova Guinea e sulle vicine isole di Salawati, Nuova Irlanda e Sturt. Un'osservazione sull'isola di Sudest è ritenuta dubbia.

Vive nelle foreste umide primarie e secondarie fino a 2.600 metri di altitudine.

Stato di conservazione

La IUCN Red List, considerato il vasto areale, l'assenza di minacce rilevanti e la popolazione stabile, classifica N.microtis come specie a rischio minimo (LC).^[1]

Nyctophilus microtis is een vleermuis uit het geslacht Nyctophilus die voorkomt op Nieuw-Guinea en de nabijgelegen eilanden Salawati en Nieuw-Ierland. N. microtis is een kleine Nyctophilus met korte oren en een korte vacht. De kop-romplengte bedraagt 42,5 tot 48,1 mm, de staartlengte 37,9 tot 42,5 mm, de voorarmlengte 37,1 tot 39,8 mm, de tibialengte 16,8 tot 18,0 mm, de achtervoetlengte 7 tot 8,7 mm, de oorlengte 15,6 tot 17,7 mm en het gewicht 6 tot 8 g.

Nyctophilus microtis é uma espécie de morcego da família Vespertilionidae. Pode ser encontrada nas ilhas de Salawati, Nova Guiné e Nova Irlanda. Há somente um único registro na parte indonésia da ilha de Nova Guiné e na ilha de Salawati.

Nyctophilus microtis^[2][3] är en fladdermusart som beskrevs av Thomas 1888. Nyctophilus microtis ingår i släktet Nyctophilus och familjen läderlappar.^[4][5] IUCN kategoriserar arten globalt som livskraftig.^[1] Inga underarter finns listade i Catalogue of Life.^[4]

Denna fladdermus förekommer huvudsakligen på östra Nya Guinea. Mindre populationer finns på öarna Salawati och Sudest. Arten vistas i låglandet och i bergstrakter upp till 2600 meter över havet. Habitatet utgörs av fuktiga tropiska skogar. Individerna vilar i den täta växtligheten eller i grottor. De bildar vid sovplatsen små flockar.^[1]

뉴기니긴귀박쥐 또는 파푸아긴귀박쥐(Nyctophilus microtis)는 애기박쥐과에 속하는 박쥐의 일종이다.^[2] 파푸아뉴기니에서만 발견된다.

특징

작은 박쥐로 몸길이는 42.5~63mm이고 전완장은 37~40.9mm, 꼬리 길이는 36~49mm이다. 발 길이는 7~10mm, 귀 길이 14~19.4mm, 몸무게는 최대 9.5g이다.^[3] 털은 짧고 무성하다. 등쪽은 갈색이고 배쪽은 좀더 밝은 색을 띤다.

생태

무성한 수풀 속 건조한 대나무 사이 또는 동굴의 높은 벽에서 작은 무리를 지어 생활한다. 외부 온도가 떨어지면 겨울잠 상태에 빠진다. 먹이는 곤충이다. 7월에 젖을 먹이는 암컷이 포획된다.

분포 및 서식지

뉴기니섬과 인근 술라웨시섬, 뉴아일랜드섬, 스터트에 널리 분포한다. 동남아시아 섬에서도 서식하는 것으로 추정된다. 해발 최대 2,600m 이하의 일차림과 이차임 습윤 숲에서 서식한다.
