Annual, pale-green, glabrous, the stems erect, simple below or branched at the base, and corymbose above, the branches erect or ascending, sharply angled or winged ; leaves rather numerous, erector ascending, rather early deciduous, the blades firm, linear to narrowly linear-lanceolate, 0.8-2.5 cm. long, acute or acuminate, entire or nearly so, sessile ; bracts subulate, glandular-toothed ; outer sepals lanceolate, 5-6 mm. long, rather finely glandular-toothed, except near the acuminate tip and the base ; inner sepals slightly shorter than the outer, more finely and copiously toothed and more decidedly acuminate ; petals yellow ; filaments subulate ; staminodia wanting, or minute ; styles united to below the middle; capsules spheroidal about 3 mm. long, much surpassed by the sepals.
Type locality : Dover, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
Distribution : Ontario to Manitoba, Georgia, and Texas.

Linum sulcatum, common names yellow flax, grooved yellow flax, grooved flax, and yellow wild flax[1] is a plant native to the United States and Canada.

Conservation status in the United States

It is listed as endangered in Connecticut,[2] as rare in Indiana, as endangered in Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, as threatened in New York (state), and as historical in Rhode Island.[1]
