Euclea racemosa subsp. schimperi (A. DC.) F. White

schimperi: named after A.F.W. Schimper (1856-1901), German scientist, who contributed much to ecology, histology and plant geography throughout the world.

Shrub or small evergreen tree. Leaves, spirally arranged, subopposite or whorled, usually at the ends of branches obovate to linear-oblanceolate, 3-12 cm long, leathery, glossy light green above, dull and paler below, hairless; margin entire often thickened. Flowers in axillary clusters, small, creamy-white, speckled with brownish glands, sweetly scented. Fruit subspherical, c. 8 mm in diameter, red to purplish, with scattered white hairs.
