Microdus sinensis Herzog 1925

Plants small, slender, 5–7 mm high, yellowish green, shiny, in compact tufts. Stems erect, simple or branched, soft. Leaves erect, flexuose or secund when dry, lanceolate from an oblong-ovate base, gradually narrowed to a subulate, obtuse apex; margins somewhat incurved, entire or serrulate near the apex; costa thick, shortly excurrent; upper cells short-rectangular, basal cells elongate, rectangular; alar cells not differentiated. Perichaetial leaves longer than the stem leaves, sheathing at base. Setae 10–15 mm long, straight, reddish purple; capsules erect, ovoid, contracted at the mouth; opercula obliquely long-rostrate, ca. 1.0 mm long; annuli in 2–3 rows of cells; peristome teeth very short, somewhat perforate, lanceolate and obtuse at the tips, vertically striate at the base. Spores small, ca. 10 µm in diameter, smooth.

Distribution: endemic to China.

Habitat: on wet soil in open fields.
