Guarea sphenophylla Urban, Symb. Ant. 7: 242. 1912
A shrub with grayish, glabrous branches, the young twigs angled, short-pilose; leaves equally pinnate, petioled, the petioles 0.5-2.5 cm. long, channeled above; leaflets 2-6, opposite, obovate or rhomboid, 2.5-5 cm. long, 1.3-2.5 cm. broad, subsessile or short-petioluled, equilateral at the base, the apex rounded or subtruncate, coriaceous, glabrous, the nerves elevated on both surfaces; inflorescence axillary, racemose, few-flowered, the branches pilose; calyx 4-lobed, pilose on the outside; petals 4, sericeous-pilose; anthers 8; fruit unknown.
Type locality: Near Rincon, Barahona, Santo Domingo. Distribution: Santo Domingo.
