Genus Hylocereus has a presence in South America, North America, Mesoamerica and the Caribbean Basin. North American occurrences are limited to Mexico. The center of genus diversity lies within Mesoamerica and the Caribbean Islands. South American occurrences are chiefly associated with Brazil, Peru and Venezuela.
