Plant 150-200 cm. Rhizome creeping, tuber-like, thickened (2-3 cm across). Flowering stem 15-30 cm, 30-90 when fruiting. Basal leaves very large. Rounded blade palmate-lobate, or palmatisected, 60-70 cm diam., with petiole up to 50-70 (-100) cm long. Flower heads numerous in compound corymbose inflorescences. Flowers light violet. V - early spring to late autumn. Fl - April-May before leaves are developed. Fr - June. Seeds germinate immediately. Propagation by seed and division. Prefers a semi-shaded place, also does well in sunny places. For group planting and for the wild garden. Z 4. New.
