Ons gevolgtrekking was egter dat die orgideë net helder verligte plekke vind om te groei, terwyl termiete en Phytophthora (plantskadelike protiste) die eintlike patogene was. By siek bome het meer lig hul takke bereik, wat dus meer orgideë kon huisves, wat naamlik die meegevolg eerder as oorsaak was. English: Aerangis biloba (syn. Angraecum bilobum). These were thought by growers to be parasitizing and killing their trees. Our conclusions were that the orchids were just finding brightly lit places to grow; termites and Phytophthora were killing the trees.
