This butterfly can be found throughout Northern Ireland, Wales and southern England, it is less commonly seen in Scotland. Male Ringlet butterflies can be almost black when young but fade to brown with age. The eye spots which give the butterfly its name are variable in size and shape - compare with 1396254.
