The curiously-named
Moodna ostrinella - Darker Moodna Moth. A real strange genus name--thank goodness for Google/Wikipedia. It must be named after
Moodna Creek in New York, as the author
Hulst (pastor and entomologist) was active in that area. This one came to a lighted sheet. It is quite small, about 7-8 mm length, about 13 mm wingspan. (Thank goodness for BugGuide too, I never would have identified it without the moth experts there.)I don't "moth sheet" often, but I have developed a nice trick. I place a white sheet over an old screen door, prop it up against the wall, and place a work light behind it. Seems to attract plenty of insects, and the screen door makes the sheet pretty stable for photography. I could likely refine the technique if I worked on it.
