Annual herb, to 60 cm, glandular-hairy. Leaves: petiole to 4 cm, without a gland; leaves with 2 pairs of opposite leaflets with a gland on the rhachis between each pair. Inflorescences terminal. Petals 5-6 mm, yellow, orange, salmon or pinkish-red with reddish-brown veins. Stamens 5, subequal; filaments straight. Pod 3-6 cm, flat.

. nual, 2-6 dm. high, much branched, viscid-glandular. Leaflets elliptic, obtuse, glabrous above, puberulent beneath, 2-3 cm. long; petioles very slender, 1-3 cm. long; petals 5-7 mm. long; stamens usually 5, sometimes 7; legume linear, 2.5-4 cm. long, 3-6 mm. wide, longhispid; seeds obovate, 3.5-4 nmi. long.
TvPE LOCALiT: India.
Distribution: Jamaica; Grenada; Bonaire; Sinaloa to Jalisco and eracruz. Venezuela; Bolivia; Paraguay. Native of the Old World tropics.

Chamaecrista absus (syn. Cassia absus), the pig's senna or tropical sensitive pea, is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, with a worldwide distribution in the tropics and subtropics.[1][2] An annual herb reaching 60 cm (24 in), it is a common weed of cultivated and waste places, and its seeds are regularly harvested and sold for use in traditional medicine in Africa and Asia.[3]

Descripción

Es una hierba anual ue alcanza un tamaño de 60 cm de altura, glandular peluda. Hojas con pecíolo de 4 cm, sin glándula; hojas con 2 pares de folíolos opuestos con una glándula en el raquis entre cada par. Las inflorescencias son terminales. Los pétalos de 5-6 mm, de color amarillo, naranja, salmón o rosa-rojo con vetas de color marrón rojizo.[2]

Hábitat

Se encuentra en los pastizales perturbados o bosque abierto, también en bordes de caminos, aluviones fluviales y antiguas zonas cultivadas.

Taxonomía

Chamaecrista absus fue descrito por (L.) H.S.Irwin & Barneby y publicado en Memoirs of The New York Botanical Garden 35: 664. 1982.[3]

Etimología

Chamaecrista: nombre genérico que deriva de las palabras griegas: chama = "bajo, enano" y crista = "cresta".[4]
