Lineus viridis is een soort in de taxonomische indeling van de snoerwormen (Nemertea). De huid van de worm is geheel met trilharen bedekt. De snoerworm jaagt op prooien van zijn eigen omvang en vangt deze met behulp van zijn slurf.
De worm behoort tot het geslacht Lineus en behoort tot de familie Lineidae. De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort werd voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1774 door Müller.

Lineus viridis and NW Atlantic Ramphogordius sanguineus (formerly Lineus socialis) are easily confused by non-specialists and by nemertinologists not very familiar with those species. Lineus viridis and Riseriellus occultus are very difficult to distinguish. Hence, records attributed to either are suspect if ID was not done by one of few experts. In NE USA, Lineus ruber and Lineus viridis also commonly confused, especially with larger, dark-colored specimens. Head is reddish in former, greenish (but with reddish brain) in latter.
